"4200 FUHT (+ test BHT) - patient result video and pix"

The following patient had presented to our clinic in Feb 2006.
He had got 1200 sparsely placed strip FUHT grafts from another clinic an year before.
In feb 2006, we performed another strip FUHT procedure of 3000+ grafts.
The grafts were placed mostly in the frontal areas and to recreate a dense and natural hairline.
The patient has recieved a total of 4200 strip FUHT grafts till now.
He visited us for a review in Jan 2007.

Following are some pictures and videos.
We welcome your questions, suggestions and criticisms on the result.

Best regards,
Dr. Sangay C.B.

Dr. A,
congratulations. great results. I hope I get similar results. I am still waiting for my grafts to grow (it has been 7 months).
Did the patient start minoxidil or finasteride after the surgery with you?
Or all the results are from the transplants only?
thanks

checkingin,
I have few grafts growing in. I went to Dr. A on June 23-24 2006 and got 4120 strip grafts.
when I see the top view from a mirror it is not significant yet.
My wife and my barber believe I have improved. But I don't see 4000 grafts yet.

techprof, everyone is different so it is hard to tell, but I would think most of the grafts would be at least starting to grow in by now. Not necessarily fully grown in.

It is also possible that they grew for a while and then shed which would put them into the 90 day disappearance mode.

Hoping for BHT results!

Dr.A and Dr. San do you see any problems with how the other doctor did his hairline? I can see it s mostly single grafts which of course that s the way it should be for the hairline but it just doesn't look all that natural. I guess he lost more hair after the first transplant otherwise he would have been ok.

Dear Ipod,
This patient's result from the first strip was not the worst that I have encountered.
Follicular unit grafts had been used all over in the first strip procedure.
The angle and the direction of the grafts was also reasonably correct.

A prime problem, that I felt in the case, was that too few grafts had been transplanted in too large an area.
I often come across patients who have been similarly "lowballed".
They were given very low graft estimates for the amount of recipient area.
It is better that the graft estimates start from the patient knowing/realizing how many of the nature given grafts he has lost.

From there, the patient can get a realistic idea of the amount of work that may be required for the results he wishes.

Dr. A

It looks like he does a serious "bald man combover" from his left side (our right). In the before picture, you can see that the "combover" is pulled back away to almost normal location. See the extra longish hair on his left sort of suspended in mid-air (second picture down in before post).

Questions:
1) Is there a reason the patient went to a darker hair color as this increased contrast makes the coverage that much more difficult.

2) Why the combover at all? Is he very bald on top and back? Can a picture be shown with the "combover" in the same location as the before picture.

Hoping for BHT results!

Dear Checkingin,
There was a serious combover issue in the before situation.
When he visited us in 2007, the combover was minimal and more out of a force of habit than necessity.
In the picture attached below, you can see the hair that the patient still uses as a minimal combover, outlined. They are lighter in color.
The recipient area, where the hair was transplanted in 2006, does not have the hair of the combover.
If you see the video, we have combed his hair back so that one gets the idea of the hair density without any combover.

My advise to the patient had been to get rid of the combover.
However, as he said, it is a step that he has to take in his mind first before he takes in reality.

My advise to him has been to cut the hair on the sides shorter and to try to comb the hair back.
The patient has hairloss in the crown area that was addressed to some extent in his previous 2006 visit to the clinic.
He has lost more hair over time and the deficit needs to be filled.
That is where the use of a body hair- scalp hair combo is planned in future. Hopefully, when he visits us the next time, he would not be using the same hair style.

Regards,
Dr. A

I will attach a few pictures that may give a better idea when the results are viewed from top.

Regarding the question about hair color.

An average person notices that his sides (temples) and front, grey earlier than the hair between and behind the ears.

The hair from the back of the scalp has been transplanted.
Therefore the darker effect in the finished result.
Yes, if the person were to colotr his hair lighter, the appearance of thickness will go up.

The crown was thinly transplanted (approx. 500 grafts) in the 2006 procedure.
There is still work that needs to be done there.
However, I am posting some pictures so as to give an idea of the work performed and further required.

Feb 2006 crown picture.

Dr A, results look good! I was assuming that he was either lightening his hair before OR darkening it after the transplant. IMHO, this result would look at least 10-15% better if his hair were lightened to the color in the before photos.

BTW, now that he has hair, tell him to lose the combover!

Hoping for BHT results!

Dr. Sangay,
Nothing much to criticise in those results.
Excellent!
I wouldnt know this was a transplant if you had not told.
Can you post some large close ups of the hairline?
I love the superb way the hair seems to exit from the scalp. Not even a trace of transplant in evidence. Just want to take a closer look.
Thx.

Dear forum readers,
We offer most of our patients a chance of undergoing a test BHT session at the time that they undergo a strip FUHT procedure.
These BH grafts are, of course, complimentary and they are placed in a demarcated, observable area that does not, at the same time, look too unnatural.

This approach helps the patient to see the growth of his transplanted body hair. Hairloss can, often, be relentlessly progressive. In such a situation, the additional donor resource that the body hair provide is very important.

In this patient, chest hair grafts were transplanted in a separately demarcated area.
The patient was happy with the resultant growth, though the transplanted body hair did not grow as long as the transplanted scalp hair.

He now contemplates a future procedure using a combination of scalp FUSE/fue and chest hair grafts for his crown area where he is losing hair.

Following are some pictures
The recipient area for the test BHT is outlined in this picture.

This picture shows the growth in the transplanted body hair. As you may notice, the patient keeps his scalp hair quite long. However, the transplanted body hair, in his case, has not been able to grow as long as the scalp hair.
It has grown longer, however, then what it did on the original chest location

The following is the picture of the body donor area as seen inJan 2007. You may notice the quality of the body donor hair in this picture. The patient does not cut/shave his body hair.

Please let me know if you have any queries.
Regards,
Dr. A
